Arsenal’s pre-season schedule concludes this Sunday with a game against Premier League title rivals Manchester City in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

The Gunners have enjoyed some good form so far this summer with two wins coming against the MLS All-Stars and Chivas during their tour of California, whilst they also routed Norwegian outfit Viking 8-0 on Friday in impressive fashion.

After sitting out the game against Viking, the likes of Petr Cech and Granit Xhaka are expected to return to the Arsenal starting line-up as manager Arsene Wenger looks to field a strong team to take on Pep Guardiola’s fresh-looking Manchester City side.

The game should also mark the returns of Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom were given extended holidays after the international exploits for Wales and Chile respectively this summer, and both players were pictured in training this week. Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are all still absent but should report in at London Colney next week.

This will not be the first time in recent memory that these two sides have met in Scandinavia for some pre-season action, with the Gunners having won out 3-1 victors during a game played in Helsinki, Finland during the summer of 2013. Theo Walcott, Ramsey and Giroud were the goalscorers that day whilst Alvaro Negredo pulled one back for the Sky Blues.

Manchester City have had a mixed pre-season so far during Guardiola’s first summer in charge at the club, with a loss against his former club Bayern Munich being followed by a penalty shoot-out victory over Borussia Dortmund before they then trumped SPFL outfit St. Johnstone 3-0 last week.

City have signed a number of new players this summer but their newest acquisition, hr £37m-man Leroy Sane, is expected to miss out. Guardiola has however taken a strong set of players with him to Scandinavia to ensure that both teams are likely to field an eleven full of recognisable names.

This is the last game for both sides before the Premier League season kicks off next weekend, with City set to face Sunderland at home on Saturday before Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium the next day.
