Match Preview: RC Lens vs. Arsenal

With the dust finally settled on the European Championships, the attentions of supporters now turns firmly onto their club’s pre-season preparations and for Arsenal their first game of the summer sees them travel across the Channel to face RC Lens in France.

Whilst the majority of their Euro 2016 stars are still enjoying their well-earned holidays, numerous first-team players look set to travel to France this week with the likes of Per Mertesacker, Francis Coquelin, Nacho Monreal, Calum Chambers and Joel Campbell all pictured training at London Colney this week. The match against Lens will also likely give opportunities for the likes of Yaya Sanogo, Gedion Zelalem and Serge Gnabry to make an impression on Arsene Wenger after being out on loan last season.

The game could also mark something of a homecoming for young starlet Jeff Reine-Adelaide, who signed for Arsenal last summer from Lens after spending five years with the French club as part of their youth system. With many of Arsenal’s high-profile names yet to rejoin the squad it can be expected that a number of Arsenal’s youth team players will be given the opportunity to show what they’re worth in this upcoming game.

The game could also mark the return of Jack Wilshere, who after missing the majority of the 2015/16 season through injury before enduring a disappointing exit for England in France this summer, will surely be keen to pull on the red and white once more and start playing again.
