Arsenal will have to activate Gonzalo Higuain’s £78.7 million release clause if they wish to prize him away from Napoli, the BBC reports.

Rumours linking the Gunners to Higuain emerged yesterday, with Arsène Wenger reportedly preparing a €60 million bid, plus Olivier Giroud for the Napoli striker.

Sources close to the Italian club reveal that there have been “no direct offers” as of yet, as per the BBC, and that Higuain will leave for no less than his release clause this summer.

“Only by meeting the release clause of €94,376,000 will the player leave Napoli,” the source states. “Otherwise, Higuain will stay for the remaining two years of his deal.”

Talk of a release clause in Higuain’s contract has been refuted by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, however, who claim its expiration was on June 30th 2016.

According to Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato, a meeting between Wenger and Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has been pencilled in for Thursday, with Arsenal willing to offer Higuain a deal worth £130,000-a-week after tax.

Olivier Giroud’s agent Michael Manuello has told Radio CRC that the striker would be open to a move to Napoli, following rumours of a swap deal involving Gonzalo Higuain.

Reports in the Italian press claim Arsenal are considering making a move for Higuain, involving Giroud in the deal, and Manuello states that the Frenchman would be happy to move on if the Gunners wanted him to.

“If he was asked to leave, then we would evaluate his options,” Manuello told Radio CRC.

“Olivier is an Arsenal player. So far there has been no communication or contact with Napoli. If Arsenal tells us to leave, then things change.”

29-year-old Giroud was Arsenal’s top Goalscorer last season, finding the back of the net 24 times in 53 appearances for the North London club.

Their bid has been rejected, however, with Juventus viewing Rugani as the heir to their ageing defence.

Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral has joined Granada on a season-long loan, the Spanish club has confirmed.

Toral is yet to make his first team debut for Arsenal since joining from Barcelona in 2011 as a youngster, spending the past two seasons out on loan to Championship clubs Brentford and Birmingham City.

The Spaniard’s spell with the Blues last season proved to be particularly impressive, appearing 36 times and scoring eight league goals.

Toral now heads for his third consecutive loan move, joining Paco Jémez’s Granada, who finished 16th last season in La Liga.

The 21-year-old’s contract with Arsenal is due to expire at the end of the new season.
