ARSENAL V SUNDERLAND: FA CUP TITLE DEFENCE COMMENCES

afc vs sund

After a good start to the year with a home win against Newcastle United the previous weekend, our attentions now turn to The FA Cup as we look to start out defence of the trophy we won last season.

I wouldn’t expect a weakened side for today, but with Liverpool in mind for Wednesday, its important that we do not underestimate our opponents. That being said, I would like to see a couple of youth players starting such as Iwobi and Adelaide along with the usual starters (Gibbs, Flamini, Walcott, Giroud etc.) I’d also like to see Ospina starting once again as he hasn’t featured since that fateful error against Olympiacos in the Champions League back in September. I think he’ll be instated as our cup goalkeeper just as Lukasz Fabianski was back in the 2013-14 season. Also, if he does start, it’ll show that he’s still relevant to our squad and isn’t a castaway.

This game won’t exactly decide our season, but will move us closer to rewriting the record books should we win the tournament for the third successive season. Not to get too ahead of ourselves though, we do have to get over a difficult hurdle in the form of Sunderland. The last meeting between the two sides resulted in a 2-0 win for Sunderland. This time round, I expect us to be much better, and hopefully Oxlade-Chamberlain doesn’t score an own-goal.

I am quite confident of a good result heading into this fixture, I would go for an edgy 2-1 win as Sunderland have shown that they are a difficult side to break down.
