ARSENAL V SUNDERLAND: Pre-match analysis

With “Nasty November” well and truly out of the way, lets see of we can put a fresh start to “Dream December” with a home win against Sunderland shall we?

We’re coming up against a Sunderland side that have come off the back of six points from their last four matches, and with Sam Allardyce in charge, this’ll be a stern test as history proves in the head to head matches between Arsene Wenger and Sam Allardyce. If you like your statistics, in the head to head record between the two managers. Wenger has won 12, drawn seven, and lost 4. Allardyce has won three, drawn seven, and lost 11. This shows that Wenger clearly has the upper hand when the managers have clashed.

The last time the sides met, Arsenal could only muster a 0-0 draw, but that sealed Sunderlands survival in the Premier League. This time though, it s much different as Arsenal are two points off the top in fourth, and Sunderland are two points clear of safety in 17th.

This’ll be a month where our title credentials are really put to the test, and with fixtures coming in thick and fast, we’ll need to show why we’re still in the hunt for the title despite recent injuries.

The news of Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez. and Mikel Arteta  ruled out for this match will no doubt have Arsene Wenger scratching his head over who starts this weekend. Wenger has stated that Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott could both make the squad as they’re not injury doubts on a positive front. Cazorla could face the prospect of being out for three months, whilst Sanchez is allegedly out for four weeks.

Wenger has also said that this’ll be a chance for Aaron Ramsey to “establish himself in the centre midfield” for the next few months as that his his preferred position, and Calum Chambers is also in the mix to play in that position.

Here’s my starting XI vs Sunderland:

So, in the month of December, its vital that we win maximum points to stay in the race for the title. Should we fail in that, it’ll have massive repercussions for our title aspirations.
