Arsenal vs Dinamo Zagreb: Win or Bust

On the day of a crucial Champions League tie, this seems like mission impossible, given that we got thumped by Bayern Munich last time out, and we’re on the brink of heading towards a tournament [Europa League] we haven’t played in since its previous guise [UEFA Cup] in 2000.

The last time Arsenal featured in the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) we suffered heartache in the final losing to Galatasary in 2000

But we can still qualify for the knock-out round, can’t we? Well for us to qualify, we have to win our next 2 matches, and hope Olympiacos get nothing from their remaining 2 matches. So it can still be done,  but goal difference will be a massive factor should we finish with 9 points, the same number of points Olympiacos have currently. So, lets do the maths here. For us to qualify, we have to win  any of our 2 matches 2-0, and 3-0. Get it?

Onto the match itself, the last time we faced the Croatian league winners, we lost 2-1, and consequently found ourselves bottom of the group. Having home advantage will help us alot as fans always turn up to the occasion when we play at home, but with injuries to key players, this’ll definitely be a test of character.

To spell out the bad news, Coquelin misses out on this match, and will be out for 3 months, whilst Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott aren’t match fit. But on a positive note, Chambers could fill in the gap left by Coquelin, and Ramsey is back in training, so he could potentially start tonight.

So, a win is important as any thing less than a will see us drop into the Europa League for the first time ever. We don’t want or need to be playing Thursday night football as making the transition from playing on a Thursday to playing on a Saturday/Sunday proves difficult.

Who do you want to see in tonights starting XI? Will Bayern do us a favour and beat Olympiacos?
