Koscielny & Wilshere out, Podolski in for Chelsea

Jack Wilshere fought the 2 game ban handed to him by F.A. following his middle finger gesture in the Manchester City match, but lost the battle and now he must begin his suspension with the match on Monday against Chelsea. In a press conference earlier today, Arsene Wenger stated that he accepts the turn of events and that Arsenal FC must simply “swallow it and move on”. What little controversy that has arisen emanates from the fact that prior to this incident Suarez had only received a 1 match ban for an identical offense. But with the recent clamp on bad behaviour that the F.A. has promised to execute, a 2 match ban seems more than reasonable.

The other player to miss the 8pm Monday night clash against the Russian chavs is Laurent Koscielny. Most of you have seen the horrific cut to his knee he sustained from a coming together with Negredo, and it is this short term injury that rules him out of the upcoming match.

The only good news in terms of team selection is the reintroduction of team joker, Lukas Podolski. His last match was against Fulham in August, where he bagged himself 2 fine goals. Arsene Wenger was unable to hold his excitement at the return of a player who he described as being a “highly clinical finisher”. Certainly now, with Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott and now Lukas Podolski back in the frame, the manager finally has more accomplished naturals wingers available at his disposal. The speed and instinctive taste these 3 players have for running down the wings and through the channels will add a whole new gun to our arsenal, as opposed to having a midfield 5 of more creative and central minded players.

Asked what he thought of being pitted against Jose Mourinho, the boss sharply replied,

“It is not a personal battle. We had some big games in the past but what is important for is to remain focused on Arsenal FC, whether we play Chelsea or any other team on Monday night. [It makes no difference], the stakes are the same and we want to get back to the winning habit”
